Local Residents React to New Law Permitting Same-Sex Marriage in Illinois

One woman says she is thrilled because she can marry the love of her life.

When Gov. Pat Quinn signed into a law an amendment that paves the way for Illinois to become the 16th state to allow same-sex marriage on Wednesday, local residents were quick to react to the news.

Some brought up separation of church and state issues. Others, talked about discrimination and how marriage is marriage now and there will be no such thing moving forward as “gay marriage.”

Here is a sampling of resident reaction gathered from Bolingbrook and Romeoville Patch Facebook pages:

Jennifer Rallo: Good news.

Marcy Melvin: I like to hear about this more and crime less.

Ami Nyberg Spencer: Great news!!! It's about time!!!

Robert Pearce:  It's about time. Now if only the Feds would pass ENDA.

Romeoville Patch:

Sandy Dryer Hulme: Seems like I remember something about separation of church and state in the constitution. So why would there be a law against it? As long as it doesn't hurt anyone ... why not?

Ashley Zizich: It's about time!

Jennifer Ann: I am so happy, now I can marry the love of my life. Now its not a gay marriage, its just a marriage, everyone has the right to love and not be discriminated for it.
