Widows' Group to Meet Feb. 28

Meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Romeoville Recreation Center

Women who have suffered the loss of their spouse are invited to the first meeting of a non-denominational group for widows, set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the art room at the Romeoville Recreation Center, 900 W. Romeo Rd.

Good Shepherd Church Pastor Suzanne Anderson-Hurdle said the group is being formed at the suggestion of community members, including Romeoville Village Clerk Bernice Holloway.

“A couple people had approached me about operating a group in Romeoville that wasn’t affiliated with any church,” Anderson-Hurdle said. The group is a way to reach out to the community as a whole, she added.

“We’ve had a lot of loss in the last couple of years,” Anderson-Hurdle said. “Women in particular seem to be needing a lot of support.”

Anderson-Hurdle said she is working to find speakers to appear at meetings, although how often the group will meet has yet to be determined.

“We’re going to have our first meeting and we’re going to leave it up to the people who come,” she said.
