In January, the village released a statement announcing its intention to deny Hanson’s request to begin mining the 80-acre Spangler property on Taylor Road. The plan had angered residents who live near the property and the Route 53 quarry.

Earlier this month, Village Manager Steve Gulden said while the Spangler property request is off the table, the public hearing will go on as planned.

Despite the rejection of the Spangler plan, Gulden said Hanson has submitted a revised proposal that could amend the quarry’s original 1995 agreement with the village.

“There’s lots of things that are there,” Gulden said. “Our goal is to start looking at the original ’95 agreement and make it better.”

Romeoville Mayor John Noak has said the village is not considering changing the quarry’s existing blasting standards.
