Do We Rely Too Much on Reports about Weather?
Weather forecasts can sound like the end of the world when big storms are predicted, leaving us scratching our heads when nothing happens. How seriously should we taken them?
You try to do the right thing by dressing for the weather and avoiding meteorological situations that could put you in danger, but the question is do we put too much stock in weather reports? Case in point: The big ice storm that was to blow in Sunday, making the roads impassable and potentially bringing down tree limbs and power lines. That's scary stuff. Many people took the forecast to heart and canceled plans. Come Sunday morning, however, the warning had been downgraded to a freezing ice alert. And even that didn't come to pass ... at least not in this area. So, the question is, do we put too much stock in weather reports? Should we taken them as advisories and then use common sense based on what we see? Or is that foolhardy given …

Stick your head outside and go off that. More often then not that is the most reliable forecast you can get.   more ›
