The 2nd Amendment right to bear arms was written at a time when American colonists were under oppression, were anticipating a war to win freedom from a tyrannical government and carried weapons that could fire just one shot before having to be reloaded with gun powder. Businesses must obtain special-use permits from the Romeoville Village Board before they can install up to five machines.
Romeoville will allow businesses to install up to five video gambling machines, but only if they get village board approval for a special-use permit first. The board this week altered village ordinances to clarify the definition of video gambling and to insert a mechanism that allows trustees to reject applications for locations they deem inappropriate, a Joliet Herald News story said. Under state law, the machines are authorized for bars, restaurants, truck stops and fraternal organizations. The Romeoville ordinance allows the village to be even more selective. “Folks are probably never going to see this at a Chili’s or an Applebee’s,” Mayor John Noak said, according to the story. Watering is allowed in Romeoville every other day between prescribed morning and evening hours; village provides watering tips.
With the hot weather expected to continue through the coming week, the village of Romeoville is reminding residents that summer water conservation restrictions are in place through Sept. 10. Between the hours of 6 and 9 a.m. and 7 and 10 p.m., residents who have addresses ending in even numbers may water on even number calendar days. Addresses ending in odd numbers may water on odd number calendar days. People with newly sodded and seeded lawns must obtain a village permit allowing for watering every day for 14 days with the prescribed hours. I said the other day that new laws weren't the answer if our state doesn't enforce current laws.
