Joliet Federal Savings issued plates/ashtrays to celebrate the state of Illinois' 150th anniversary, and one of them is being auctioned on eBay.
In 1968, when the state of Illinois celebrated its sesquicentennial -- aka, the 150th anniversary of it becoming a state -- the old Joliet Federal Savings issued a commemorative ashtray/plate to honor the milestone. Joliet Federal is long gone, but one of its souvenirs is still intact and available on eBay for a starting auction bid of just $2.99 (shipping, however, will set the winner back $6). For one dollar more, you can skip the bidding and just buy it. The seller describes it as "nice." Bidding ends late Thursday night. Click here to get more details. Railroad Salvage was the Joliet company that manufactured this line of dog food; the seller wants $2.99 for the label.
Ever heard of the Railroad Salvage Co.? They apparently used to manufacture Rivet's Dog Food in Joliet. While neither name seems particularly appealing, both are a part of Joliet history being sold on eBay. The seller has original labels from the dog food that he/she is selling for $2.99 each (with a rather high mailing cost of $3; perhaps that's negotiable). The label is 4.25 inches by 9.75 inches in size, is described as being in "mint" condition and probably goes back to sometime in the 1980s. To see the entire eBay entry and/or make a offer to buy, click here. Interestingly, this particular label caught the eye of someone because you can buy a poster with the same photo for $24.99 from allposters.com and the print for $90 from …

You have until Friday to cast a bid on this piece of Americana that also has a great link to Joliet.
If you're old enough to know what this used to carry, then you may be interested in making a bid on eBay to purchase this item. It's a 7 Up pop bottle carrier that bears the insignia "Joliet Ill" and the company's old logo: "You Like It. It Likes You." The seller describes it as "vintage," and that the 9-inch-by-11.75-inch metal carrier is "in good condition though it has some rust on the bottom of the base." The opening bid is $19.99, with a $10 shipping fee. The auction ends at about 9 p.m. Friday, and so far no bids have been made.
