However, after all of the storms that have been predicted but haven't come to pass, we'll believe it when we see it.
All winter we've been feeling a little like the boy who cried wolf when it comes to weather stories -- if we write it, you can bet it won't happen. Still, we feel somewhat remiss about not at least putting the word out should this winter storm predicted for tonight actually come to pass. So, here goes. The National Weather Service, whose office is located in Romeoville, has issued a winter weather advisory for the period between 9 tonight and 6 p.m. Friday. The most recent forecast, issued at 2:45 p.m., said snow should begin falling the Joliet area sometime after 9 p.m. and will be at its heaviest -- possibly one inch per hour -- between late tonight and early Friday. Updated 9:45 p.m. A National Weather Service update predicts Will County will see a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow will continue overnight and diminish between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. NWS predicts a coating of ice in one tenth to two tenths of an inch and sleet accumulations between one inch and two. The NWS continues to caution that travel will be slippery. There is still spotty freezing drizzle that will occur after the main precipitation has ended. According to the National Weather Service in Romeoville, residents can expect three to five inches of snow starting at around midnight.
Get out those shovels. After Midwesterners were treated to a warmer-than-usual fall, winter is here, and the first snowstorm of the year is on its way. Meteorologist Charles Mott of the National Weather Service in Romeoville said a winter weather advisory will be in effect for 24 hours, starting at midnight. After this week's light dusting of snow, residents can expect to see even more of the white stuff, he added. "We're looking at about three to five inches," Mott said.
