Woman Drives into Guard in Car Theft Attempt: Cops

The guard was trying to stop the suspect from driving out of a hospital parking lot when she "struck and carried him several feet," Joliet Cmdr. Rich Demick said.

A Joliet woman whom police say brazenly swiped a car from a hospital valet parking lot and drove into the security guard trying to stop her was charged with aggravated battery and vehicle theft. The incident occurred at about 9:50 a.m. Dec. 23, when Jaimie Kinney emerged from the front entrance of Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, observed a minivan with its key in the ignition and climbed behind the wheel, Joliet police Cmdr. Rich Demick said. A security guard on duty knew the van did not belong to Kinney, 20, of 358 N. Broadway, and attempted to block her exit from the parking lot, Demick said. Police Blotter: Recycling Thief; a Stolen ATV

Stolen vehicle An ATV left unattended in the driveway of a home in the 200 block of Fenton was stolen, police said, putting the value of the vehicle at $800. Brick thrown through window Someone used a landscaping brick to damage the front window of a residence in the 300 block of McKool. Estimated cost to repair the damage is $500, according to police. An eco-conscious thief? Someone stole a green Waste Management recycling garbage can from the driveway of a residence in the 600 block of Belmont, police said. Estimated cost of the can is $100.
