Valley View Schools Closed Due to Widespread Flooding

All campuses cancelled classes Thursday.

All classes are cancelled in Valley View School District Thursday due to widespread flooding, according to the district. All after-school activities are also cancelled. Two additional comments after reading what others had to say - 1. If building administrators (Principals & Assistant Principals) are not supposed to inform VVSD Administration of impending danger; i.e. flooding (which I find hard to believe) then shouldn't the VVSD Administration be in contact with the building administrators to survey the overall condittions. Kindergarten Enrollment Open in Valley View School District

Students need to be 5 years old before Sept. 1 to be eligile for next year's kindergarten class.

Kindergarten enrollment in the Valley View School District is now open, according to the district's website. Parents and guadians should enroll their children at the Valley View Enrollment office, 755 Dalhart Ave., Romeoville, from 8 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday. Students need to be 5 years old before Sept. 1 to be eligile for next year's kindergarten class. According to the district, the following items are needed for registration: Enrollment forms are available at the District Administration Center, 755 Dalhart Ave., Romeoville, or by going to the enrollment website.

Valley View Stays Steady in ISBE Financial Rankings

The district's score fell slightly, but remained within the "Financial Review" category.

Valley View School District received a slightly lower score on this year's Illinois State Board of Education Financial Profile, but avoided dropping down into the "Financial Early Warning" category. The district is still in the "Financial Review" category, along with 190 other Illinois school districts. The "Review" category denotes districts in ISBE's second-highest financial health category. Those districts receive a limited financial review by ISBE, but are monitored for potential financial downward trends. Meanwhile, nearby Plainfield School District 202 slipped a notch, falling into the "Financial Early Watch" category, while Troy School District 30-C stayed in the "Financial Recognition" category. K12 Virtual Charter School Under Heavy Fire by Illinois Jobs Activists

On Sunday, the Illinois Jobs With Justice group will host a Tennessee lawmaker to speak out against K12's "scheme to siphon funds from 18 public school districts to a for-profit school." The company is proposing a school in Valley View.

Valley View Students Excel at Will County Spelling Bee

Students competed Thursday night at Lewis University in Romeoville.

Valley View School District 365U once again proved its students are among the best spellers in Will County by placing four 8th grade spellers in the top 13 at the annual Will County Spelling Bee Thursday night. Defending County champion Kim Belser of Humphrey Middle School, who competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. last year, finished fourth at this year’s county bee, missing on the word “striated” in the 17th round. Lukancic’s Elizabeth Zahorick tied for 5th place, dropping out in the 15th round on the word “nonplus.” Rory Richards of A. Vito Martinez tied for 8th place, missing “junta” in round nine. BHS Abduction Suspect Sketch Released

Bolingbrook police two attempts to kidnap students near Bolingbrook High School may be related.

Bolingbrook police have released the sketch of a man they believe tried to abduct two Bolingbrook High School students while they were walking home this week.  READ MORE:  On Tuesday, police reported a man tried to pull a Bolingbrook student into his car. Then on Thursday, a second teenage girl reported fighting off a man who followed her home and grabbed her from behind, according to police.  Bolingbrook police have said Thursday's incident may be related to the attempted abduction on Tuesday. Both incidents remain under investigation, police said. Volunteers Sought for Valley View Safety Group

The new committee will consider ways in which to improve school security and prevent tragedies such as the one that occurred in Newtown, Conn.

Valley View School District 365U, like many around the country, is grappling with what types of security measures should be in place to prevent a tragedy such as the one that happen in Connecticut from taking place here. To that end, the district is seeking volunteers to become part of its school safety committee.
