Oh we saw that WAY earlier than 2pm. What a joke that man is. How does formerly playing football for a less than spectacular team, in any way, qualify you to be mayor??? SO happy with the results of this election!   more ›

Letters to the Editor

Letter: McMichael Should Stop the Trash-Talk

Send letters to the editor to shannon.antinori@patch.com.

Until this week I was still undecided about the upcoming mayoral race. I had a hard time telling what McMichael stood for besides telling me what I wanted to hear. About a month ago I had a conversation with one of his supporters who approached me about putting signs in my yard. He gave me a lot of slogans about stopping foreclosures and short sales in Hampton Park, but no explanation of how the former football player would achieve this goal. I did some reading about the purchase of Crazy Rock and decided I supported the City purchase of that property but I had not made up my mind for Noak.      Then this week I received a little newspaper-like flyer on my door.  In it the McMichael campaign made a series of ludicrous claims, such as that …

Letter: An Open Letter to Steve McMichael

Send letters to the editor to shannon.antinori@patch.com.

How convenient is it that you left your “newsletter” on my front porch four days before the elections? After months of refusing to answer any questions in a public forum where you knew that you would be held accountable for your statements by the residents of Romeoville and reporters and after refusing to debate Mayor Noak on the basics of the very office you hope to win, you certainly have much to say on the inner workings of the village that you claim you are not privy to.Your publication confirmed to me just how unprofessional you are and how little integrity you possess. This is not the behavior of a true community leader.Citizens and neighbors of Romeoville, I ask you to look at the differences in which these two candidates have run …

If this is indeed the case, why was it not mentioned in the newsletter sent out by the campaign? When did this happen? When was the letter sent to Mayor Noak because this is the first time that this has been said anywhere and it is the day before the election? Were the press notified to his intention to debate and what would have been the details such as venue, moderators, reporters, etc…? I am …   more ›

McMichael Planning Community Forum of His Own

Romeoville Mayor John Noak and election challenger Steve "Mongo" McMichael have yet to debate face-to-face.

Former Chicago Bear Steve "Mongo" McMichael to this point has not engaged in recent campaign forums as he runs for the office of Romeoville mayor. However, McMichael announced Wednesday he has organized his own community forum set for noon Saturday, March 30, at his restaurant Mongo McMichael's, 1101 N Independence Blvd. McMichael said in a news release Wednesday the forum would end after every resident question was answered. McMichael and incumbent village president John Noak have spent the last few weeks sparring over organizing a debate. Noak has challenged McMichael to meet face-to-face. McMichael has said such a forum would turn into a media circus. Another Romeoville candidate forum is set for Thursday night at Lukancic Middle School…

@Stacie - he didn't lend his name to a restaurant for free. Investor - whatever- he makes money off it. I know Spandonitis has some interest also. Not impressed by him at all. If he was a true investor in Romeoville he would have bought a house!   more ›

Letter: Mayor Noak Good for Romeoville

Resident speaks up about April election; Mayor John Noak faces challenger Steve "Mongo" McMichael.

Mayor John Noak has been for wonderful for Romeoville. He and the whole village board have been careful and conscientious to move Romeoville forward with the residents and businesses in mind.  His knowledge on how the local, state and federal governments work for almost two decades, and for the last five years, the knowledge of municipal government, is the difference. We benefit from his experienced leadership. The difference between Mayor Noak and Mr. Steve McMichael could not be more clear. How can Mr. McMichael think that he will be a transparent leader if he cannot commit to debate in person? He has said publicly, “why would I debate?” because he does not have the same access to information that the Mayor has – information that is …

James, thanks for the additional comments, but I still don't get why the money was spent so frivilously. Using TIF "funds" is a questionable practice at best because no one can predict what will happen in the future regarding possible increased property tax revenues. Where will the money come from if the hypothetical TIF expectations are not met? Besides, using the full tax increment to repay …   more ›

McMichael: I Won’t Debate Noak

Ex-Bear says he won’t take part in community debates prior to the April 2013 election.

After Steve “Mongo” McMichael missed a candidates’ forum at a Romeoville senior community, Mayor John Noak is reasserting his willingness to debate his opponent in the weeks leading up to the April 9 election. But the former Chicago Bear doesn’t seem eager to engage his political foe. Last week, McMichael told CBS he has no intention of debating Noak. “You know if I choose to debate this guy, every media outlet is going to be there,” McMichael said, adding, “Why am I going to give him that exposure?” McMichael previously told Patch his campaign was considering a fact-based debate, but did not accept an invitation to a March 28 candidate event sponsored by the Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce.
