McMichael Planning Community Forum of His Own

Romeoville Mayor John Noak and election challenger Steve "Mongo" McMichael have yet to debate face-to-face.

Former Chicago Bear Steve "Mongo" McMichael to this point has not engaged in recent campaign forums as he runs for the office of Romeoville mayor. However, McMichael announced Wednesday he has organized his own community forum set for noon Saturday, March 30, at his restaurant Mongo McMichael's, 1101 N Independence Blvd. McMichael said in a news release Wednesday the forum would end after every resident question was answered. McMichael and incumbent village president John Noak have spent the last few weeks sparring over organizing a debate. Noak has challenged McMichael to meet face-to-face. McMichael has said such a forum would turn into a media circus. Another Romeoville candidate forum is set for Thursday night at Lukancic Middle School…

@Stacie - he didn't lend his name to a restaurant for free. Investor - whatever- he makes money off it. I know Spandonitis has some interest also. Not impressed by him at all. If he was a true investor in Romeoville he would have bought a house!   more ›

Letter: Mayor John Noak Helped Me Launch My Business

Resident speaks up about April election; Mayor John Noak faces challenger Steve "Mongo" McMichael.

Mayor John Noak, more than just a mayor! I lost my job a few years ago and had a hard time finding employment. I've lived in Romeoville for 10 years and have built two houses here. I have a wonderful family that includes two young daughters. I couldn't bear the fact that I might lose my house if I didn't find a job soon. I've always had a hobby and a dream of opening my own Cheesecake Business one day. With no jobs on the horizon, I figured I would work on my cheesecake business. I contacted the mayor's office just to find out some info on starting my own business in Romeoville. I was surprised that Mayor Noak personally contacted me and invited me to have a sit-down chat in his office to see how he could help. I was blown away by his …

McMichael: I Won’t Debate Noak

Ex-Bear says he won’t take part in community debates prior to the April 2013 election.

After Steve “Mongo” McMichael missed a candidates’ forum at a Romeoville senior community, Mayor John Noak is reasserting his willingness to debate his opponent in the weeks leading up to the April 9 election. But the former Chicago Bear doesn’t seem eager to engage his political foe. Last week, McMichael told CBS he has no intention of debating Noak. “You know if I choose to debate this guy, every media outlet is going to be there,” McMichael said, adding, “Why am I going to give him that exposure?” McMichael previously told Patch his campaign was considering a fact-based debate, but did not accept an invitation to a March 28 candidate event sponsored by the Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce. Steve Mc Michael was endorsed by a big time celebrity in Mike Ditka. Romeoville is a small town with small town problems. It's pretty obvious that Mc Michael has ulterior motives.   more ›

Super Bowl Bears Gather to Show Support for McMichael for Mayor

At a campaign event Saturday, some members of the 1985 Chicago Bears said Steve "Mongo" McMichael would make a good candidate for Romeoville mayor.

Steve McMichael kicked off his campaign season Saturday surrounded by an all-star cast of Chicago Bears football legends who said their former teammate was a natural leader and a good choice for Romeoville’s next mayor. Romeoville residents packed Mongo McMichaels restaurant to show their support for the candidate and meet and greet members of the 1985 Super Bowl Bears, including Dan Hampton, Otis Wilson, Gary Fencik, Tom Thayer, Jay Hilgenberg and Shaun Gayle. McMichael faces incumbent Mayor John Noak and former mayor Fred Dewald in the April 9 election. McMichael said he’s been active knocking on doors, listening to residents and taking notes. He said residents are concerned about their declining property values and the high rates of …

All the Best... What is McMichael's stance on allowing full time air traffic into and out of Lewis? Obnoxiously loud airplanes not only reduce property values but lower everyone's peace and quiet. I moved here for the peace and quiet, and you know Noak is all for expansion of Lewis airport. Also, allowing Hanson to blast deep underground when most people don't even know about it hurts our quality…   more ›

Steve McMichael Says He's Bearing Down to Become Romeoville's Next Mayor

The former Chicago Bears star, who owns Mongo McMichael's in Romeoville, is "dead serious" about his run for office.

Steve "Mongo" McMichael has been many things in his life: Chicago Bears defensive tackle and Super Bowl champion, World Championshp Wrestling commentator and wrestler, Professional Indoor Football League head coach, ESPN 1000 radio football analyst, and owner of Mongo McMichael's sports bar and restaurant. Now he wants to add another line to the resume: Mayor of Romeoville. McMichael went on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000 this morning to announce his candidacy, stressing that he is "dead serious" about making a run against incumbent Mayor John Noak in the April 2013 election. McMichael, 54, said he's been approached by several people about making the run. "They've been mentioning to me that they're not happy, and they want me to …
