Romeoville's Quan Receives Rare 4-Year NROTC Scholarship

RHS senior gets a welcome surprise.

Article submitted by Valley View School District Marine Corps officials paid a surprise visit to Romeoville High School senior Daniel Quan Friday to award him a full four-year Navy ROTC scholarship to one of five major midwest universities. Quan, who is Cadet Battalion Commander of the Romeoville High School Marine Junior ROTC Unit, was one of only five students in the Chicago area to receive the coveted scholarship. While pursuing what he hopes to be a degree in psychology, he will participate in the Marine Corps ROTC option at either Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan State, Notre Dame, or the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. “I’m honored to receive the scholarship,” Quan said. “There was a lot of competition for this scholarship,” …

Romeoville Basketball Coach Jeff Bambule Steps Down

Report: After 22 years, the head coach is giving up his post for family reasons.

Romeoville High School head basketball coach Jeff Bambule won't return to the court next season, according to The Herald-News. After 22 years of coaching, including 13 as head coach, Bambule is resigning for family reasons, telling the paper, "It's been a rough year. My mom died. It's a family thing. I had to be there more for my dad." Bambule, who has been a special education teacher for 20 years, will continue teaching at RHS. Athletic director Jim Boudouris is accepting applications for a new head basetball coach. Click here to read the full article.

Romeoville High School's "We Baldin'" team shaved their heads and celebrated a grand total of more than $11,000 to St. Baldrick's, a charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research.

Romeoville High School students celebrated raising more than $11,000 for St. Baldrick's Friday.  You can still donate to Romeoville's St. Baldrick's team. Just click here. About 50 staff and students shaved their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer. Several girls also cut their hair, to be donated. The only female shavee was sophomore Dana Christie.  "I see the strength it takes to (lose your hair), and I wanted to be a symbol for people who don't have a choice," Christie said. "I feel invincible right now."  Freshman Robin Czajowski was another Romeoville High School shavee.  "I'm blessed not to have cancer," Czajowski said. Romeoville High School Stages 'Meet Me in St. Louis'

Spring musical is March 15-17, 22 and 23 at RHS.

Romeoville High School proudly presents its spring musical, “Meet Me in St. Louis”, on March 15-17, 22, 23.  Friday and Saturday shows are at 7 p.m.  The Sunday performance will be at 3 p.m.  A stage production of the original 1944 movie musical starring Judy Garland, the story follows the Smith family and their excitement over the 1904 World’s Fair, held in St. Louis.  When Mr. Smith announces that he’s been transferred to New York City before the Fair opens, all of the family’s hopes for the fair are dashed, or so they think!  Come see if they make the move to New York City, or are able to see the lights of the World’s Fair in their beloved St. Louis.  With a little romance and comedy thrown in, this show is sure to please everyone. Romeoville High School Looks to Surpass St. Baldrick's Fundraiser Goals

The campus will host its annual head-shaving fundraiser March 15. A "Peg a Cop" dodgeball tournament is March 13.

RHS JV Spartanettes Take Second in State in Hip Hop Division

The Romeoville High School JV Spartanettes competed in Team Dance Illinois state championships Sunday.

Romeoville High School JV Spartanettes finished second in the Junior Varsity Hip Hop Division II at Sunday’s Team Dance Illinois (TDI) state championships in Peoria. Their dance theme, “Heartbreakers,” was choreographed by four varsity Spartanettes and was mixed by RHS teacher Adam Hill. The squad also earned sixth place in the JV Open Pom Division II competition with the dance theme “Beauty and the Beast.” Squad members include Melissa Alvarado, Karoline Bacewicz, Laura Blum, Hevan Cruz, Alexandra Garcia, Nicole Kula, Kimberly Larsen, Natalia Metelski, Gloria Mileva, Victoria Patino, Amber Richards, Sheyanne Ryan, Ja'Nae Smith, and Breanna Vaira. RHS Student Group Strives to Help Community

"Student Leadership" has organized such events as Pay It Forward week and playing bingo with seniors.

Valley View School District 365U submitted this article: An amazing organization known as “Student Leadership” is making a big difference these days at Romeoville High School. “We want to help our school and our community as much as we can,” said Co-President Anthony Balderas. “We can do that by getting as many kids as possible involved in the school,” added Co-President Daniel Quan. RHS Football Players Sign with Colleges

The seven players will be going to Western Michigan, Olivet Nazarene and other schools.

Linebacker Caleb Bailey will attend Western Michigan University on a full scholarship following a season in which he earned All State Honorable Mention. The 6-1, 215 pounder registered 105 tackles last fall.
