Two Valley View School District 365U athletes turned in top-10 performances at the IHSA girls state track championships over the weekend. Bolingbrook High School sophomore Jessica Watkins finished 9th in the state in both the 100 meter dash (12.44) and 200 meter dash (25.99). A’ric Jackson, "The Dream Achiever" spoke to the Romeoville High School Class of 2017 Friday.
He’s known as “The Dream Achiever.” And when A’ric Jackson finished speaking with members of the Romeoville High School Class of 2017 Friday, he left after urging every eighth-grader in the room to “walk out of these doors to be the best person this school, this community, this world has ever seen.” Jackson, an Atlanta-based author and motivational speaker, was part of an all-day “step-up” program for A. Vito Martinez and Lukancic Middle School students that included group discussions with current RHS students, some team-building games and lots of details about what life at RHS will be like for next fall’s freshmen. “It all starts with mindset. Callah McLeod has revolutionary patriots on both sides of her family.
Romeoville High School junior Callah Moree McLeod is the newly elected President of the Illinois Society Children of the American Revolution. As is the tradition, she was sworn into office on the lawn of Mount Vernon, home of George and Martha Washington along with other elected State Presidents. Prior to the ceremony, she laid a ceremonial wreath on the tomb of Martha Washington. McLeod joined C.A.R. as a member of the local Piece Downer Society when she was 10. Since then she has been active at the local and national levels, holding several officer positions on the state board and serving as a chairperson nationally. The "Flexo" team took second in the novice division at the 2013 Joliet Junior College Robotic Challenge.
The “Flexo” team from Romeoville High School finished second in the Novice Division at the 2013 Joliet Junior College Robotic Challenge April 26. Will Caron, Cole Brooker, McDavis Ansere and Robin Czajowski combined to design and program a robot that bested 13 other northern Illinois schools. Glenbard East won the competition, edging RHS by 6 points. RHS beat third place Ottawa High School by 19 points. More than 80 Chicago area high school students participated in the competition which is designed to generate interest in engineering, technology and the rapidly growing field of robotics. Effort aimed at increasing safety among teen drivers.
The Romeoville Police Department will team with Romeoville High School to conduct Driver Safety Week from April 29 to May 3, with the goal of increasing safety among teen drivers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drivers ages 15-20 are especially vulnerable to death and injury on U.S. roadways, and traffic crashes are the leading cause of death among American teenagers. Teens are involved in three times as many fatal crashes than older drivers, according to the NHTSA. Next week, police will focus on three issues related to teen crashes: Speed, seat belt use and driving under the influence of alcohol. The following activities are planned:

Volunteers will be at four roadway locations this weekend to raise money for the Romeoville High School Band Boosters.
Volunteers will be at four roadway locations this weekend collecting money for the Romeoville High School Band Boosters “Shake-The-Can” fundraiser. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 135th Street and Belmont, 13th Street and Joliet Road, Weber and Airport roads, and Weber and Taylor roads. Shake-the-Can is one of the ways the Band Boosters raise money to supplement the band program at RHS. The money will go toward the purchase of large or specialized instruments, repair and maintenance of band uniforms, purchase of music, fleet maintenance, scholarships, and travel expenses. Eighteen Romeoville High School students were recently honored as the top in several categories, from English and math to ROTC and athletics.
Top achievers from Bolingbrook and Romeoville high schools were honored at the annual Valley View School District 365U “Those Who Excel” luncheon at Bolingbrook Golf Club Wednesday. Hosted by the Board of Education, Those Who Excel has honored the “doers” and “achievers” in VVSD high schools since the early 1970s when several students were taken out to lunch by the school board president and district superintendent. As the years went by, other board members and administrations joined in the annual outing to honor the young men and women who most demonstrated potential for becoming our leaders of tomorrow. The end of the year get-together has become one of the highlights of the year for students, board members and administrators. Honored …
