Updated at 10:45 a.m. March 11 A Bolingbrook man died early Monday after being pulled from a Romeoville retention pond following a single-vehicle crash. The car, a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, was traveling on Lakeview Drive at Remington Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. when it left the roadway and crashed into the retention pond, according to police. Romeoville Cmdr. Ken Kroll said three occupants were able to free themselves from the car, which became completely submerged in the pond. He said no other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the crash. After swimming to safety, the other three occupants of the car were treated and released at the scene, police said. 6 p.m. The Lemont Fire Protection District has suspended search efforts Wednesday for 25-year-old Jeremy Asbell. According to Battalion Chief Jim Sheldon, the search was temporarily halted around 3 p.m. in the retention pond where Asbell's canoe reportedly tipped over early Tuesday morning. Three trucks from the DuPage County Public Works Department arrived on the scene with large pumps to lower water levels. "We haven't picked up anything at all, so this will hopefully help us see a little bit better when we go out again," he said. Sheldon described the pond as "very dark and murky," and said the dense weeds were making it difficult for them to pick up anything in the water.
