Renovated course boasts challenging new features similar to those found across the pond
Avid golfers may be willing to travel to Scotland to experience the legendary St. Andrews course, but with the reopening of the renovated Mistwood Golf Club, devotees to the game will be able to experience a taste of Scotland right here in Romeoville. On Friday, June 15, Mistwood will unveil its new course to the public, complete with trademark hazards such as the ones found in the finest courses in Scotland and Ireland: stacked sod-wall bunkers. Each of the 19 new bunkers at Mistwood’s renovated course was built using layers of sod, with the grass of one connecting to the grass of the next. The result, said golf course architect Ray Hearn, is a look he likens to the famous British Open courses like St. Andrews, Troon, Muirfield and Royal …

The Des Plaines Valley Public Library District held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday for the $6.3 million Romeoville renovation.
Village officials, library staff, local business leaders and community members who supported a 2010 building referendum gathered Wednesday to celebrate the start of construction on a $6.3 million renovation project at the Des Plaines Valley Public Library District’s Romeoville branch. “The whole project is just going to be fabulous when it’s done,” Library Director Scott Pointon said. “The loud banging and clanking going on in the basement is music to our ears.” The Romeoville renovation, which will allow the branch to occupy both the first and second floors of the 38-year-old facility, is just the first step for the library district. The $23 million referendum will also fund a similar renovation at the Lockport branch, as well as a brand-…

Construction could start at the Des Plaines Valley Public Library District's Romeoville branch by February 2011, according to Director Scott Pointon.
There is a good reason why the typically quiet Des Plaines Valley Public Library District will become a little noisier over the next several years. The district's Romeoville and Lockport branches will get an update, and a new Crest Hill location will be built. The projects were approved by voters as part of a $23 million referendum in February. The work will expand the Lockport facility, 121 E. 8th St., from 16,500 to 20,000 square feet. A new 20,000-square-foot Crest Hill library is slated to be build near Weber and Caton Farm Roads, replacing the current 7,600-square-foot building at 1298 Theodore St. The Romeoville branch de-annexed from the Fountaindale Public Library District in 2008 to become a part of the Des Plaines Valley Public …
