Following the deaths of several children, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is working to get the recliners out of homes.
At the request of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, four retailers are voluntarily recalling Nap Nanny baby recliners after several deaths and more than 100 cases of a child falling or nearly falling out. The companies participating in the recall are Amazon.com, Buy Buy Baby, Diapers.com and Toys R Us/Babies R Us. The models include Nap Nanny Generations One and Two and the Chill™ model infant recliners. "CPSC is warning parents and caregivers that these baby recliners contain defects in the design, warnings and instructions, which pose a substantial risk of injury and death to infants," the agency said in its announcement. Paramount Reserve products may be contaminated with listeria, which can be dangerous to pregnant women, elderly people an anyone with impaired immunity.
Yet another product recall has been issued, this one involving smoked salmon sold at Sam's Club in Illinois and 42 other states and may be contaminated with listeria. Listerious causes food poisoning, and can be particularly dangerous and even fatal to pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and adults with impaired immune systems, according the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. There is a Sam's Club in Joliet, located at 321 S. Larkin Ave. There are also stores located in Naperville, Woodridge and Tinley Park. The products being recalled are Paramount Reserve 12-ounce and 1.25-pound packs distributed between Nov. 12 and Dec. 21, according to a Food Safety News bulletin. More than 70 varieties of raw and roasted peanuts have been added to a Sunland Inc. recall for possible salmonella contamination.
A recall that began with a contaminated batch of peanut butter has now expanded again. The recall now includes raw and roasted in-shell and shelled peanuts, Sunland Inc. announced in a news release posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website. The nuts were processed in the Sunland Peanut Processing Plant in Portales, N.M. The same plant processed the two Trader Joe's Valencia Peanut Butter varieties linked to an outbreak of salmonella bradeney, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The voluntary recall of salmonella-contaminated peanut and almond butter now includes more than 70 products.
Buyer beware. The peanut or almond butter in your pantry may be tainted. The limited voluntary recall of salmonella-tainted peanut and almond butter has expanded beyond Trader Joe’s stores to include more than 70 products sold nationwide. Stores that carry products named in the recall include Target, Whole Foods, Walmart, GNC and Meijer. The almond and peanut butters were manufactured between May 1 and Sept. 24. Sunland Inc. is the manufacturer of the peanut and almond butter, which are sold under a variety of brand names, including Target's Archer Farms brand and Earth Balance.
