Cheerleading team for students with special needs inspires coaches and classmates and revels in its appearance on Oprah's show.
They've spent two seasons cheering on the Romeoville High School Spartans. On Friday, it was fans' turn to cheer for the Spartan Sparkles as the special-needs cheerleading squad got a taste of fame on The Oprah Winfrey Show. The squad's appearance was part of a follow-up to a 2009 episode featuring the founders of the country's first cheer squad for students with physical and developmental disabilities. Since the original show aired, teams have sprung up at high schools across the United States — including Romeoville High School.
