Valley View Revises New Security Measures to Allow Food, Visitors

Valley View School District 365U Superintendent James Mitchem will hold a town meeting Thursday to discuss the new security measures.

Valley View School District 365U officials have revised the district's new security regulations regarding food and visitors.  The district released a list of new safety and security measures Monday following the elementary school shooting in Newtown, CT.  READ MORE: Parents Kept Out of Classroom Parties Part of Valley View Safety Measures The district previously barred all food from being brought into the classroom; now only home-made food is prohibited while store-bought food is allowed. I actually emailed the district about the threat and the superintendent emailed me back regarding the issue. My daughter is in school today, there was added security when I dropped her off. Even though they found who started the rumor, they still took extra precautions today. I am thankful that even though they found the rumor was not credible they still took action to keep our children safe. …   more ›

Parents Kept Out of Classroom Parties Part of Valley View Safety Measures

Valley View Superintendent James Mitchem announced additional safety and security measures to be put in place following Friday's elementary school shooting in Newtown, CT.

Valley View School District 365U has announced additional safety measures in the wake of Friday's school shooting in Newtown, CT.  Want to get the latest Bolingbrook news in your inbox every morning? The National Association of School Pyschologists that addresses how best to address high-profile acts of violence.

In the wake of Friday's tragic shooting deaths in Newtown, CT, parents all over the country will be asked some very difficult questions by their own young students. The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) offers these tips in helping parents talk about such tragidies: High profile acts of violence, particularly in schools, can confuse and frighten children who may feel in danger or worry that their friends or loved-ones are at risk. They will look to adults for information and guidance on how to react. I would like to see ever local school district release to every parent the action plans for issues like fire, gun, bomb and lock down events that they have developed. I would feel they should also show how many times these items have been tested and results. The plans don't work unless tested against.
