Tollway Gears Up for Long Holiday Weekend

Construction lane closures will be suspended over the holiday, although the work-zone speed limit remains 45 mph. State police will be out in force, conducting roadside checks.

The Illinois Tollway expects 7 million vehicles on the tollway system this Labor Day holiday from Friday through Tuesday. The tollway is suspending all temporary construction lane closures over the weekend. In addition, Illinois State Police will provide heightened traffic enforcement, including roadside safety checks. While construction lane closures are suspended, motorists should be aware of major traffic shifts in place in work zones, the tollway said in a press release. Some work may continue behind barriers to keep construction on schedule, but that won't impact traffic, the tollway said. Police Plan DUI Crackdown Over Labor Day Weekend

Stay safe; don't drink and drive.

It’s the unofficial end of summer — or eat least summer barbecue season. But as area residents celebrate Labor Day weekend, they should heed this advice: Don’t drink and drive. Romeoville Police will be increasing enforcement through Monday, Sept. 5. Several officers from the department’s traffic unit will be assigned solely to patrolling for drunken drivers, according to Assistant Chief Steven Lucchesi. “It’s a weekend that’s extensively traveled by motorists, so we want to make sure we have a couple officers that are tasked with just looking for DUIs,” Lucchesi said. Romeoville isn’t the only law enforcement agency that will be cracking down this weekend. The Will County Sheriff’s Office on Monday announced its plans for its Labor Day …
