Police Blotter: Arrests for ID Theft, DUI, Battery and False Police Report

Lewis Profs Offer Tips to Avoid Online ID Theft

Being smart about passwords and having a good anti-virus/spyware/malware program are key, they say.

Lewis University in Romeoville provided the following story: The issue of what to do about keeping information safe while online is still a major problem, especially for college students. The average mean cost of identity theft is $631, the average time to resolve it is 33 hours, and nearly 4 percent of Americans experience it (according to www.westflorida.bbb.org). Dr. Faisal Abdullah, the chair of the Lewis University Department of Management Information Systems, said, “Every semester I have students who tell me, ‘I have a virus on my computer. Accident Leads to ID Theft Arrest

Romeoville man admits to using fake identification to get job at local store, police say.

What started out a minor accident in the parking lot of the Home Depot warehouse led to identity theft charges for a Romeoville man last week. Yaw Frimpung, 35, 49 Fresia, was arrested Friday and charged with felony identity theft, fraud and reckless driving, according to police. Assistant Chief Steven Lucchesi said a woman reported being struck by a coworker’s car as she walked through the parking after ending a shift around 2 a.m. Thursday at Menard’s. Although the woman was not seriously injured, she reported the incident the next afternoon, Lucchesi said.
