Light Up the Holidays Festival All Day Friday

The annual event includes movies, cookie-making, brunch with Santa, a fun fair, live music, the Festival of Trees and, of course, the lighting of the Christmas tree and parade.

As hard as it may be to believe, Thanksgiving is less than three weeks away and that means Joliet's annual Light Up the Holidays Festival and Parade is right around the corner. Now in its 15th year, the event is traditionally held on the Friday after Thanksgiving and brings as many as 25,000 people to downtown Joliet for the festivities that culminate with the lighting of the Christmas tree in Van Buren Plaza and the holiday parade. As it has in the past, the University of St. Francis is sponsoring the parade, which features bands and floats supporting area businesses and organizations. Bernie the St. Bernard, USF's mascot, is this year's grand marshal. The tree lighting takes place at 5:15 p.m., attended by Mayor Tom Giarrante, Joliet …
