How to Share Your Fourth of July Photographs on Patch

It's pretty easy to show off patriotic celebrations.

Did you get a great fireworks shot during the village’s fireworks display? Or snap a cute photograph of kids at Deer Crossing Park? Romeoville Patch photographer Jan Ivaska was out in full force Sunday (she got photos of  residents rocking out to local band BBI, kids taking advantage of activities and inflatables and, of course, the fireworks), but that doesn't mean you can't share your photographs with the community, too. In fact, readers can upload photographs and videos on any Romeoville Patch articles, but reader contributions are appreciated even more for big community events like the Fourth of July. Here's how you do it: 1) You must be registered on Patch and logged in to upload photographs and videos, so do that first at Romeoville.…

July Fourth: Perfect Time for Midyear Resolution

Intention to display more patience will benefit many around you.

The idea struck me the other day at the grocery store as I zigzagged my way around an elderly gentleman who wasn’t moving quite fast enough for me. In honor of our recognition of Independence Day, I intend to be more patient. Call it my Midyear's resolution, if you will. Hey, why not make a resolution on the Fourth of July? Unlike those I commit to and soon forget at the dawn of each new year, maybe I’ll actually keep this one. After all, the world would be a better place if more of us displayed a bit of patience with our fellow human beings, don’t you think? It’s time I did my part. Have you ever sat in a long line of traffic and waited while the person in the car ahead of you insisted on giving cuts to just about every vehicle within a …

Hospital Crews Ready for Fourth of July Weekend

Firework-related injury not as common as you would think, doctor says.

Emergency room crews at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital are preparing for a busy Fourth of July weekend. But it’s not necessarily because of what you think. Fred Rothenberger, an emergency room doctor with the hospital, said firework-related injuries have significantly decreased during the last 10 or 15 years, leaving alcohol-related injuries the norm. Add into the mix the forecasted sweltering heat, and Rothenberger said emergency room personnel could be in for an extremely busy weekend. “I saw that (Friday) is supposed to be up near 100 degree heat and if that’s the case, we’ll get a ton of heat related injuries over the weekend,” he said. “The heat exhaustion starts to kick in.” But that’s not to say there won’t be any firework-related …
