Fatal Accident on I-355: Illinois State Police (UPDATE--2 Fatalities)

One man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate-355 at Boughton Road.

UPDATE: 10:38 p.m. The two killed in the 3 p.m. two-vehicle crash April 27 on Interstate 355 have been identified as an elderly couple from Berwyn. The driver, 87-year-old Daniel Simone, and wife Dimple Simone, 90. The couple was pronounced dead at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, 500 Remington Blvd. The Will County Coroner's Office has scheduled an autopsy for Daniel Simone on Monday. An external examination is all the coroner's office has planned for the body of Dimple Simone. The Simones were headed north when their vehicle was hit, police said. Plainfield Man Struck, Killed on I-55 Near Joliet

The Illinois State Police are investigating; information on why 22-year-old Ryan Knudsen was walking on the highway has not been released.

A 22-year-old Plainfield man walking in the northbound lane of Interstate 55, just north of the U.S. 30 Joliet/Plainfield exit, died Sunday morning after being struck by two vehicles, an Illinois State Police District 5 news release said. The victim has been identified as Ryan Knudsen, of 23925 Chicago St., a state police spokesman said Sunday night. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:10 a.m., according to the Will County Coroner's Office, and an autopsy will be conducted Monday. The accident occurred at about 5:20 a.m. when a 2005 Freightliner semi-tractor-trailer struck Knudsen in the right lane, the release said. Man Killed Pickup-Semi Crash on Rt. 53

The 68-year-old Ivesdale man was pronounced dead at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center; two others were injured.

A 68-year-old man was killed Thursday night when his pickup truck was T-boned by a semi-trailer truck at Chicago Street/Route 53 and Schweitzer Road in Joliet. Charles M. Tabaka, of Ivesdale, Ill., was pronounced dead at 9:01 p.m. at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, according to the Will County Coroner's Office. Two passengers in Tabaka's truck were also injured, Joliet Police Chief Michael Trafton said. One was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in very serious condition and the other was being treated for numerous broken bones at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. Village Employee Killed in Accident

Del Burns, 52, died Monday at Loyola University Medical Center.

Romeoville police are investigating an accident that claimed the life of a village public works employee. Leroy “Del” Burns, 52, died Monday night after being struck by a Romeoville public works vehicle earlier in the day. Police said the accident happened around 9 a.m. in the 1800 block of Sierra Trail. Burns was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital before being airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the police department. The village was notified of Burns' death at 7:42 p.m. Tuesday, the release said. “The Village of Romeoville expresses its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Leroy (Del) Burns,” the village said in the statement. Del was an amazing man. He always knew how to make you smile. He was like a second father to me long with the rest of his car club members, who I know will miss him greatly.
