‘Santa Paws’ Benefits Humane Society

There’s no doubt that Chipper’s a special guy. But just who he is — or rather, what he is — remains a mystery for owner Andy Sybert. So on Saturday, Sybert donated $60 to the Romeoville Humane Society in exchange for a “doggy DNA test” to identify just what makes up the 2-year-old rescue dog’s pedigree. Test kits were on sale at the humane society's third annual Santa Paws fundraiser at the Friendship Centre at HighPoint. “I’ve had him now for two years, and I’ve never known what he is,” Sybert said, demonstrating how the pooch’s mismatched ears — one pointing up, the other flopping down — make him look like he could be a white shepherd/Labrador mix. Every wondered where, exactly, your mutt gets the characteristics that makes him or her your furry best friend? Or do you just want to be able to answer when someone asks, “What kind of dog is that?” The Romeoville Humane Society can help you solve the mystery this weekend at its third annual Santa Paws holiday fundraiser. For $60, guests can get a doggy DNA kit that will help them determine whether their pet is a purebred or identify the breeds that make their mixed-breed pooch so special. “The test is very simple to use as it only requires a swab of the inside of their mouth and it takes about four to six weeks to get the results,” Romeoville Humane Society Secretary Megan Ziller said in an email. “These are perfect for your own personal…
