A Romeoville man suffered minor injuries after smashing the window of a squad car with his head early Sunday, police said. Nicholas Monahan, 21, 153 S. Highpoint, was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital after receiving scratches on his face in the late-night incident at the HighPoint community, said Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi. Police received a call from residents around 1:11 a.m. who reported that Monahan had smashed some decorative flower planters outside their apartment, Lucchesi said. “The residents inside the apartment were disturbed by his actions,” Lucchesi said, adding that Monahan also banged on the apartment doors and windows. A dispute between neighbors landed a Romeoville man in jail twice in one night, according to police. Victor Gonzalez III, 19, 324 Karen, faces felony charges after allegedly lashing out following a March 6 disorderly conduct arrest. Assistant Chief Steven Lucchesi said Gonzalez was first arrested shortly after midnight. “Mr. Gonzalez had allegedly made some threats to a resident at a neighbor’s house,” Lucchesi said. Gonzalez was released after posting bond, but neighbors soon made a second call to police after receiving more threats, Lucchesi said. “Around 1:55 a.m. we received a call from some people who said they received some threats related to the first call,” Lucchesi said. U.S. appellate court judges have upheld an earlier ruling that Romeoville police had probable cause to arrest a Joliet man in connection with disorderly conduct.
A Joliet man who claimed Romeoville police falsely arrested him after an alleged road rage incident lost an appeal last week in U.S. appellate court. In a case filed against the village of Romeoville in 2008, Willie Brown sought $100,000 in damages, alleging police arrested him and seized his car without probable cause during an October 30, 2007 traffic stop. "Basically, he's alleging it was an unconstitutional arrest," Romeoville Interim Police Chief Mark Turvey said, adding the officers had good reason to arrest Brown.
