Rep. Dan Lipinski shared his frustrations about stalled deficit-reduction talks on the eve of sequestration in Washington, after opening a new office in Orland Park.
Rep. Dan Lipinski opened up a new office Thursday within the redistricted 3rd Congressional District, in Orland Park’s Frederick T. Owens Village Hall. The office will be staffed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for people to bring their concerns about federal issues. Lipinski spoke with Patch shortly after the office opened about service within the new office, sequestration, and what it will actually take for the federal government to resolve the growing deficit. What kind of services can people expect to receive here? Any issues that anyone has with federal issues, such as social security, Medicare, veterans’ benefits, if they are interested in appointments to military academy. Any issues that regard the federal government, …

Patch contacted 10 newly elected representatives to find out what they plan to do to help curb gun violence in our country in the wake of last week's mass killing in Newtown, CT. Those who actually wanted to discuss the issue say it's time for a change.
When members of the 113th Congress take their seats in January, one of the top items on their agenda very well could be a new look at federal gun control laws. In the wake of the Newtown, CT, tragedy of one week ago today, President Obama on Wednesday set a January deadline for his administration to "create concrete proposals" to curb gun violence in the United States. Obama also called on Congress to reinstate an assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 to "pursue the possibility of limiting high-capacity ammunition clips" and to "close a gun show loophole that allows people to purchase firearms from private dealers without a background check." What will come of this renewed debate is yet to be seen, but what is certain is that …

Democrat U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski cruises past Republican challenger Rich Grabowski to fifth term in Congress. Grabowski says he won't concede until absentee and military votes are counted.
It was a short evening for Democrat U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski who easily won his fifth congressional term in Illinois’s Third District. ABC-7 declared Lipinski the winner with 93-percent of precincts counted in Cook, Will and Dupage Counties. Lipinski throttled GOP challenger Richard L. Grabowski, capturing 68 percent of the vote. Tea Party favorite Grabowski, a Constitutional Conservative who aligned himself with the Republican Party, characterized his campaign against the moderate Democrat as “David vs. Goliath.” Lipinski thanked voters for their support saying that he was humbled by Tuesday’s victory and looked forward to representing all of the people in the newly relined Third District. “Throughout this campaign, I heard from …

Lemont Mayor Brian Reaves and Romeoville Mayor John Noak plan to deliver a letter to Metra's board of directors Friday morning, according to Congressman Dan Lipinski's office.
U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) and 22 local elected officials are asking Metra to add two rush hour trains to the Heritage Corridor line—one morning inbound train and one evening outbound train. The Heritage Corridor line runs from Joliet to Chicago, with stations in Lockport, Lemont, Willow Springs and Summit. Plans are underway to build a new station in Romeoville. Currently, the line has three-round trip trains per day, with no midday or weekend service. Lemont Mayor Brian Reaves and Romeoville Mayor John Noak delivered a letter to Metra's board of directors at its meeting in Chicago on Friday, according Lipinski's office. “The bottom line is that the current level of service of just three round-trip trains per day on the Heritage …

The 3rd District Republican candidates have newly collected the support of Tea Party officials and other conservative figures and groups.
Both of the major candidates in the Republican primary race to challenge incumbent Dan Lipinski in the 3rd District primary race are touting new endorsements from conservative organizations and Tea Party groups in press releases. Under the new legislative maps, much of Romeoville is now part of the 3rd District, having been shifted from the 13th. Richard Grabowski of Hometown has announced endorsements from the GOP organizations of Orland Township, Palos Township, Worth Township and the Chicago 11th Ward, the Lemont and Homer/Lockport Tea Party groups, GOP figures Michael Bendas and William J. Kelly, and the organizations Tax Accountability and the Illinois Center-Right Coalition. “Ordinary, common sense thinking people are lining up in …

The Metra line went from having a 75-percent on-time rate in December to being on time 99 percent of the time in February.
The Heritage Corridor line went from Metra's worst on-time performer in December to its best in February, Congressman Dan Lipinski (D-3rd) announced Thursday. In December, Metra apologized to Heritage Corridor riders for "exasperating" delays caused by signal problems and track reconstruction. The primary issue, according to Metra, is that Canadian National Railway owns the tracks on which the Heritage Corridor operates—not Metra. In accordance with the industry standard, Metra counts a train as late if it arrives more than six minutes past schedule. Because of the various problems along the tracks, only 75 percent of trains were on time, according to a news release. Lipinski, who has been an active proponent of expanding service on the …

The 3rd District candidate says his Republican primary opponent’s record makes him either a Democratic shill or a “fraud” conservative; Falvey’s campaign called the claims “ridiculous” and “desperate.”
Richard Grabowski, a Hometown resident and 3rd Congressional District candidate, released a blistering press release on Wednesday night charging that his main challenger for the Republican primary nomination to challenge Democratic incumbent Dan Lipinski, Jim Falvey, is a “fraud” and a “Democrat in Republican clothing.” Under the new legislative maps, much of Romeoville is now part of the 3rd District after having been shifted from the 13th District. Grabowski’s charges stem from a Cook County Clerk report showing that in the past nine primary elections, Falvey of Western Springs has drawn a Democratic ballot six times and a Republican ballot only twice, in 1996 and 2006. (Falvey did not cast a primary vote in 2010.) “If the man is going …

Art Jones, who hopes to challenge Democrat Dan Lipinski in Illinois' 3rd Congressional District, neither denies nor repudiates his past affiliation with the neo-Nazi Party.
A congressional candidate running as a Republican in the upcoming Illinois primary says the “Holocaust never happened.” Arthur Jones, 64, a Lyons, IL, insurance salesman who organizes family-friendly, neo-Nazi events around Adolph Hitler’s birthday, hopes to be the Republican candidate chosen to run against Democratic Congressman Dan Lipinski in Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District. Under the new legislative maps, much of Romeoville is now part of the 3rd District, having been shifted from the 13th. “As far as I’m concerned, the Holocaust is nothing more than an international extortion racket by the Jews,” Jones said. “It’s the blackest lie in history. Millions of dollars are being made by Jews telling this tale of woe and misfortune in …

Congressman Dan Lipinski calls legislation “critically important.
The U.S. Senate voted 75-20 Monday in favor of a long-term reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration, following the lead of the House, which OK’d the bill on Friday. The move will pave the way for FAA-funded projects throughout the Chicago area, including upgrades at Romeoville’s Lewis University Airport, Congressman Dan Lipinski, D-Third District, said after the House's vote. “Finally, after a five-year delay, we have a long-term reauthorization of the FAA,” Lipinski said in a press release, adding: It’s about time. This bill is critically important to the Chicago region, which depends on Midway and O’Hare airports for $45 billion in economic activity and 540,000 jobs. It will also provide grants for which smaller airports …

Long-term reauthorization bill must pass to secure FAA funding for projects, including upgrades to Lewis University Airport.
Congressman Dan Lipinski said Wednesday that he continues to push for the long-term reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after a five-year delay that has stalled airport projects including plans to rebuild a 20-year-old runway at Lewis University Airport in Romeoville. Lipinski, D-3rd District, who is seeking re-election, said the reauthorization will create jobs, save money and reduce air traffic delays. In a press release, Lipinski said the legislation is crucial to the Chicago area: Passage of this measure is of critical importance to the Chicago region, which depends on Midway and O’Hare airports for $45 billion in economic activity and 540,000 jobs. It will also provide grants for which smaller airports can …
