Only one Will County Board member voted against Shawn Walsh, who had been nominated by his father, Will County Executive Larry Walsh.
With only one dissenting vote, Shawn Walsh was selected to be Will County's new regional superintendent of schools. Walsh, who had been the assistant regional superintendent, was the only applicant for the job. He was nominated by his father, Will County Executive Larry Walsh, to succeed Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, who was elected a state senator in November. Applications are being accepted from candidates who would like to assume the Will County regional superintendent of schools position, which had been filled by newly elected state Sen. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-49). Will County Executive Larry Walsh and county board member Joe Babich, who chairs the board's health and public safety committee, are forming an advisory group to review the applications and conduct interviews, according to a news release from Walsh. Dear Editor; As a Will County Board member and a candidate for Will County executive, I am calling on Will County Executive Larry Walsh to invite Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan for a free lunch in Will County. The lunch should be a forum for Walsh and Madigan to explain why Will County school districts and taxpayers should be punished with a huge tax increase when the state has so poorly managed its finances. Speaker Madigan is pushing a plan to transfer $40 billion of state teacher pension liabilities onto local school districts and communities.
