Drivers advised to buckle up, watch their drinking over the holiday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Plainfield police are reminding everyone who will be out on the roadways this holiday season to drive carefully and defensively, do not drive impaired and, most importantly, buckle up. To lose a loved one is a terrible thing to experience, especially during the holidays. The Will County Sheriff's Office is planning a late-night crackdown for the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns during the Christmas and New Year's holidays. The intensified enforcement effort underscores the disproportionate number of traffic deaths during late-night hours and the importance of driving safe and sober. According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the midnight to 3 a.m. timeframe is the deadliest time on Illinois roadways. The Will County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety is announcing the success of their Click It or Ticket/Drive Sober campaignm held Nov. 14 to 27. The sheriff's office joined other state and local law enforcement agencies in an effort to reduce highway fatalities by cracking down on unbuckled motorists and impaired drivers, both day and night. During the mobilization campaign Will County Sheriff's officers issued: 11 safety belt citations; zero child safety seat citations; five DUI arrests; 13 moving citations; 24 non-moving citations; zero fugitives apprehended; six suspended/revoked licenses; 20 uninsured motorists; 25 speeding citations; zero reckless driving citations; and zero …
