Fuel Spill Causes Major Headaches on Weber Road

A truck that lost its gas tank at Weber and Normantown resulted in more than 100 gallons of fuel being spilled and an all-day cleanup process, officials said.

Organization Gives Kids a Chance to Give Back

A local organization is seeking help with service project, book collection.

So she and other local parents decided to create their own. “It’s hard to find service opportunities for kids,” Ryan explained. On Sunday, K.I.D.S. members and their families will take part in their first service project, “Litter for Literacy.” …

A tanker leaking diesel fuel closed Illinois 126 at Essington Road and kept cars from exiting on and off Interstate 55 Friday afternoon, an Illinois State Police spokesman said. The truck had been traveling southbound on I-55 at about 3:35 p.m. when the driver realized the vehicle was leaking fuel, Trooper Shelly Cox said. He exited at westbound Illinois 126 and contacted police and his employer, Herr Petroleum of Galesburg. The spill, described as a "slow leak," resulted in the loss of about 30 gallons, Cox said. Cleanup required the closure of Illinois 126 at Essington Road and, at different times, the I-55 on- and off-ramps were also shut off to traffic, she said. The process was completed shortly at 7 p.m. Plainfield police and fire …
