Church's Rep 'Shredded' by Sex Abuse: Bishop

Bishop Daniel Conlon, in addressing staff members who oversee child protection policies, said the church's reputation is almost as bad as it was during the Reformation.

The Catholic Church's failure to address and fix the widespread problem of sexual abuse in its ranks has left the reputation of its hierarchy "shredded," Diocese of Joliet Bishop Daniel Conlon told staffers. Conlon, who chaired the bishops' Committee for the Protection of Children and Young People, said it was an "illusion" to believe the church could repair its credibility by implementing new policies on child protection while doing "some decent publicity." Conlon was quoted in a speech he gave in August to a conference of staffers who oversee child safety programs in American dioceses in an article in the Aug. 30 edition of Origins, according to the Religion News Service. "worst news reporting, I have ever seen" Give me a break. Apologists for the sex-abuse scandal that has rocked the Catholic Church,just don't seem to get. They act like the Church is the victim here. Just like the Penn St. scandal,the only victims are the children who were raped and molested by the Catholic Church and it's priests. Bishop Conlon seems to see the real picture here. Advent Season Will Bring Changes for Catholics

Parishes will begin using revised Roman Missal Nov. 27.

This year, Catholics across the English-speaking world will begin the Advent season reciting from a revised version of the Roman Missal, which contains prayers and instructions for the celebration of Mass. Fr. Herb Essig, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Bolingbrook, said the new version of the missal was prepared “in response to a document written by Pope John Paul II, who wanted the translation of the Roman Missal revised to conform more literally to the Latin.” According to the United States Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), the English edition of the reformed liturgy of the Second Vatican Council (popularly known as “Vatican II") was published in the U.S. in 1973 and revised again in 1975. These changes, as our Pastor Fr. Herb Essig mentioned, are not extreme for the assembly. For those of us old enough to remember - the bigger shock was the move from Latin to the vernacular. Yes, we are very comfortable with the wording we have known now for years. Yet, these changes can be good in terms of causing us to stop & really reflect / think about what we are praying.
