Property Crimes: Break-Ins, Thefts, Vandalism

Cash, cell phones, jewelry, political signs and trailers are among the items reported stolen, according to the Romeoville Police Department.

The Romeoville Police Department took the following property crime reports: Two new cell phones, valued at a total of $374.76, taken from a business in the 400 block of South Weber Road. Report made at 3:32 p.m. Jan. 28. Cash and several pieces of jewelry, valued at a total of $7,100, taken from a residence in the 400 block of Kingston Avenue. Report made at 6:24 p.m. Jan. 29. Several political signs, valued at a total of $30, taken from a site in the 1000 block of North Independence. Report made at 4:21 p.m. Feb. 1. A gas tank access door and gas cap lock were damaged on a vehicle parked in a public lot in the 200 block of South Highpoint. Damage estimated at $64; report made at 5:19 p.m. Feb. 1. Property Crimes: Car Stolen, Homes Burglarized, Decorations Vandalized

The following property crime reports were taken by the Romeoville Police Department: An unknown object was used to break eight outdoor overhead lights and a glass block window of a concessions stand in the 1100 block of Murphy Drive owned by the Romeoville Recreation Department. Report made at about 8 a.m. Dec. 11; damage estimated at $700. Several items were taken from a business in the 400 block of North Weber Road in an incident of retail theft. Woman Nabbed in Break-in Tells Cops She Wanted Cigarettes

Linda Hernandez was found inside the house only minutes after the homeowner had left, Joliet police said.

A Joliet woman who has snuck into a man's house twice in the last three weeks was arrested Wednesday afternoon for burglary, Joliet police Cmdr. Rich Demick said. The victim told officers that he had left his home in the 200 block of Illinois Street at about 4 p.m. but double-backed to retrieve something he forgot, only to find that Linda G. Hernandez, 42, had let herself in during the short time he was gone, Demick said. She had done almost the same thing on Dec. 1, when police arrested her on a charge of criminal trespass to property, he said. In the most recent incident, Hernandez initially told police she "knew (the homeowner) kept cigarettes in his house and she wanted to borrow some," Demick said. She went in when she found the door …
