To make room for the new program, VVSD put additions on nine schools and renovated facilities in three others. The Valley View School District 365U tentative budget is available for public viewing until Sept. 24.
The tentative budget for Valley View School District 365U is now on display until mid-September for review by the public. The board will vote whether to adopt the $273 million budget at the Sept. 24 Board of Education meeting. Big changes include: The district has $241,582,767 in operating funds, or an increase of $5.1 million from FY12, according to district documents. The budget includes projected revenues of $202,266,178 and expenses of $230,234,167. VVSD officials said Monday the district's budget will be balanced by FY15. The district is utilizing its fund balance in the midst of a $13 million deficit from FY13. The district projects that deficit will shrink to $5 million in FY14. In an effort to assist Spanish-speaking community members with potential communications and cultural issues, VVSD will again offer free English-as-a-Second-Language classes for adults this fall. The federally-funded classes, scheduled for every Tuesday and Thursday from Sept. 11 to Nov. 20 at both Romeoville and Bolingbrook High Schools, will feature three levels: basic, intermediate and advanced. Levels will be determined through past experience in similar VVSD classes or, for new students, through placement exams at 5 p.m. either Aug. 28 or Aug. 30 in Room D235 at Bolingbrook High School.
