The victim apparently tried to intervene in a fight between her granddaughter and another family member, instigating the attack, Romeoville police said.
A Romeoville woman who attacked her grandmother after she attempted to intervene in a fight between the woman and another family member was arrested Saturday, Romeoville police said. Rachelle R. Parreno, 30, 604 Sherwood, was charged with aggravated battery of a senior in connection with the incident that occurred at her home at about 5 p.m., Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said. Parreno was fighting with a relative over an unknown topic when the 70-year-old grandmother stepped in between the two in an effort to calm the situation, Lucchesi said. It apparently had the opposite effect, with Parreno allegedly pulling the older woman's hair and kicking her, he said. Parreno was taken into custody Saturday night and taken to the Will …

Romeoville police said the Bolingbrook man has twice warned the woman that he would kill her and harm her family unless she agreed to meet with him.
A Bolingbrook man who threatened to hurt his former girlfriend's family if she refused to see him was arrested Sunday on a felony stalking charge, Romeoville Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said. It was the second time in less than a week that Antonio Sanchez, 36, of 612 Cochise Circle, issued a threat against his ex, who lives in Romeoville, Lucchesi said. On Feb. 5, he told her he would kill her and her new boyfriend with a gun unless she agreed to see him and he later showed up at the woman's house, prompting her to call Romeoville police, he said. In that case, the woman opted not to press charges. Instead, police told Sanchez they would arrest him on trespassing charges if he were to return to the victim's home and instructed …

Joliet police say they have a man in custody who has confessed to the two armed robberies, and another man was picked up at the same time for auto theft.
A Joliet man has confessed to robbing a Domino's Pizza deliveryman Sunday and a small East Side store Monday night, Joliet police said. Joliet tactical officers, acting on a tip, interviewed Javier R. Reyna, 20, and Jesus Tenorio, 22, Tuesday as possible suspects in the two cases, Cmdr. Rich Demick said. Tenorio admitted to his participation in both armed holdups. Reyna refused to speak with police, but was arrested on a Mokena Police Department warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle, Demick said. "The (tactical) guys do a fantastic job going after guys like this," he said. "They're always working." Police had been seeking two Hispanic men accused of using a handgun to steal cash, a cell phone and two pizzas Sunday night in the 300 …

A Brookfield man was arrested Tuesday after a K9 officer's dog detected a hidden compartment containing eight bags of drugs, Joliet police said.
Had Luis Cruz not had the bad luck of being pulled over by a Joliet police K9 officer, it's entirely possible his hidden stash of drugs concealed in a secret compartment of his SUV would have gone undetected, Cmdr. Al Roechner said. Then again, had the 31-year-old Brookfield man had a license plate on the front of his silver Jeep Cherokee, the Joliet officer likely would not have pulled him over in the first place. Cruz was stopped at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday near Theodore Street and Raynor Avenue, Roechner said. When the officer noticed Cruz's passenger "looking back and ducking down a lot," he asked Cruz if he could take a look inside, he said. "You can check it out if you want," was Cruz's reply, Roechner said. The officer's dog quickly …

Joliet police say a Romeoville man went on a crime spree before they finally caught up with him.
A Romeoville man who tried to break into two Joliet homes and used a Bible to set a car on fire was arrested by Joliet police Sunday night and charged with felony arson and burglary, Capt. Tab Jensen said. The alleged crime spree began at 16 Melchior Place, where Craig D. Javonte, 21, is accused of breaking a double-pane window and attempting to kick in a door, Jensen said. A neighbor called police, and Jensen said Javonte would likely have been caught inside the unoccupied house had a burglar alarm not scared him off. Less than a block away he came upon an unlocked 2001 Toyota Camry at 11 Mississippi Ave. with a Bible on its front seat, Jensen said. Javonte allegedly placed the book on the car's hood and set it on fire, damaging the …

Michael Kay is accused of disconnecting the power and attempting to push his way into an apartment before Joliet police arrived to arrest him, reports said.
A burglary suspect told Joliet police he wasn't as much breaking into an apartment building early Saturday morning as coming in on an invitation -- one issued by the television inside. "He made a statement to officers that he saw the TV on inside and it told him to come in," Police Cmdr. Rich Demick said. Regardless of the invitation, the doors were locked and police say Michael Kay, 25, forced his way into the 1022 Kelly Ave. building at about 1:50 a.m.. He then removed fuses to disconnect the electricty and attempted to push his way into an apartment. The first-floor residents told police that shortly after the electricty went out, they heard someone coming up the basement stairs, Demick said. Kay tried to come in through their apartment…

The alleged robber got away with several hundred dollars but was apprehended just a short time later, Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said.
A Romeoville man armed with a makeshift gun/bayonet-type weapon stole several hundred dollars from the 7-Eleven store on Romeo Road, Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said. Ronald Maxwell Lacy, 21, of 942 E. Savannah, is accused of entering the store shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday and pointing a gun with a knife taped to the barrel at the clerk, Lucchesi said. Lacy did not speak, but the clerk understood it to be a robbery, opened the cash register and gave him the money inside, Lucchesi said. Lacy then fled on foot. The employee was able to give Romeoville police a description of the suspect, and a short time later officers spotted Lacy in the 200 block of Gordon Avenue, just a block away from the 235 Romeo Road store, Lucchesi said. …
