The organization represents the thousands of lay Catholic women throughout the diocese and is affiliated with the National Council of Catholic Women. Its purpose is to unite Catholic women's organizations, provide a voice for women in the church, support social justice issues and train women to become leaders in the Church and in society. The CCW meets monthly at the St. Charles pastoral center. Each year, the organization selects an honoree as the CCW Woman of the Year. The CCW also supports Catholic education by administering the Bishop Blanchette Scholarship, awarded each year to a student at a Catholic high school in the diocese.

According to its mission statement, the newspaper's goal is "to bring to print the Word as it takes life through our people" and to be "a voice for the unborn, the elderly, the impoverished." The paper is published weekly from January through June and September through December, and biweekly in July and August. The newspaper's headquarters is at the St. Charles Borromeo Pastoral Center in Romeoville.
