Woofapalooza Goes to the Dogs

Local animal rescues turned out for the benefit at Cottonwood Farm.

Pooches got the chance to play Saturday at an event designed to benefit Rosie, the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s search and rescue bloodhound.

The Woofapalooza benefit took place at Siegel’s Cottonwood Farm on Weber Road in Lockport.

While pets participated in events including a dog/owner lookalike contest, dachshund race and a “bobbing for wieners” activity, local animal rescues raised awareness about their efforts to save homeless pets.

At the Romeoville Humane Society booth, pet owners could have their precious pooches microchipped, a service that can help lost pets get reunited with their owners, for just $15. The organization was coming off a busy week in which volunteers worked hard to find foster homes for 12 of the in a Bolingbrook home, according to volunteer Brian Labl.

That included Zeus, a 3-year-old white German shepherd who eagerly took part in an agility course, led by young animal lovers Elle and Dane McGary.

Tisha McGary said the pooch was in a bad way when the dogs were found. He’s now being cared for by his foster family as he puts on weight after being severely malnourished.
