Shepherd’s Pantry to Celebrate Grand Reopening

Shepherd’s Pantry will celebrate its grand reopening with an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at , 2 Belmont Drive in Romeoville. An invocation and ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 7 pm.

The community is invited to tour the facility, meet the volunteers, learn how the pantry works and how they can help. Shepherd’s Pantry moved to this new location in June after almost 19 years at   

“We’re so excited to be in this new space, and we really want the community to see it for themselves,” says Teresa Linaweaver, one of the pantry’s coordinators. “Right now we’re feeding about 100 Romeoville families every month, and this space helps us do that.”

On average, the pantry spends $7.28 for each family’s food each month. A typical box of food contains macaroni and cheese, instant mashed potatoes, three packages of frozen meat, canned fruit and vegetables, beans, tuna, peanut butter and jelly, cereal, rice, soup and pasta. Pantry volunteers are able to provide so much food for so little cost because they partner with the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

As a joint ministry of Good Shepherd Church and United Presbyterian Church, both on Romeoville, the pantry depends on financial and food donations from local businesses, clubs, churches, individuals and community events like the and .
