Dogs Found in Vacant Home in Need of Fosters

The Romeoville Humane Society is looking for volunteers willing to take in some of the pets found abandoned in a Bolingbrook home.

They’ve had a rough life so far.

Last month, . The owner of the home faces animal cruelty charges, and for now, the dogs are in a sort of limbo, according to Romeoville Humane Society volunteer Megan Ziller.

While the dogs are still legally the property of their owner, 21-year-old Brian Q. Brown of Bolingbrook, they are expected to be signed over to Bolingbrook Animal Control this week.

When that happens, Ziller said, the humane society wants to be ready to lessen the burden by taking in some of the 27 dogs, which range in age from puppies to adults.

But because the Romeoville Humane Society does not yet have its own building to house the animals, the organization will need the help of fosters to do that.

“We are hoping that as early as Wednesday night or Thursday we can start taking in a few,” Ziller said in an email, adding that dogs will be released to area animal rescues on a first come, first served basis.

The humane society will provide medical care, food, a crate, collar and leashes to those who foster the pets.

Foster homes are needed for the following pets:

  • Eight English bulldogs
  • One French bulldog
  • Six or seven Irish terrier puppies (3-4 months old)
  • Two Dobermans
  • A Maltese mix
  • A Japanese Chin
  • A puggle
  • A soft coated Wheaten terrier

To be eligible to become a foster, volunteers must have their own pets up to date on shots and spayed or neutered. Humane society staff also conducts a home visit to meet with pets and make sure the home is a suitable environment for foster animals.

Anyone interested in fostering one of the displaced animals should contact fill out an application form on the humane society website and email it to romeovillehumanesociety@yahoo.com
