Think Spring: Registration Under Way for Romeoville Hitting Camp

Spartans baseball coach Dave Haskins will lead the instruction of youngsters during a six-week program that begins on Jan. 12.

In recent days, Major League Baseball's Hot Stove League has heated up—even as the weather in the Chicago area has turned wintry.

There has been talk of the White Sox listening to offers for ace left-hander Chris Sale. And the Cubs traded Brian Bogusevic to the Marlins for Justin Ruggiano in a deal moving a pair of outfielders from one town/team to another.

Locally, the indicator that spring isn't all that far off comes from Romeoville High School in the form of a news release about the Spartans' upcoming hitting camp. Yes, you can get the Little Leaguers at your house ready to go right out of the blocks.

Registration is under way for the six-week Spartan Baseball Winter Hitting Camp for youngsters in third through eighth grades, according to a Valley View School District News release.

Camp dates are Jan. 12, 19 and 26 as well as Feb. 2, 9 and 16. Hitting sessions run from noon to 1 p.m. each day in the Romeoville High School field house.

Led by RHS baseball coach Dave Haskins and his assistants, the camp provides quality instruction through drills, the teaching of fundamentals, situational hitting and a new hitting philosophy, according to the Valley View release.

The cost is $50. Registrations will be accepted until the first day of camp. Registration forms and information on the camp are available by calling (847) 650-3274 or emailing Haskins: HaskinsDM@vvsd.org.
