Romeoville Senior is Member of World Champion Cheerleading Club

Kayla Bibbs is headed to Eastern Illinois University in the fall.

Submitted by Valley View School District:

Romeoville High School’s Kayla Bibbs is a world champion.

The Spartans senior was a member of the Aurora-based ICE Lady Lightning cheerleading squad that won the Small Girls Team Division at the United States All Star Federation Cheerleading Worlds in Orlando last month.

“It feels really good to be a world champion,” she said. “Everyone’s like cheerleading is stupid but after they see our team people realize it’s not just yelling and screaming.  We work out a lot. We run a lot.  You have to be conditioned to do all of it. It’s really hard.”

An A/B student who is also an RHS Guidance Department aide and is involved in Leadership Club and Best Buddies, Bibbs is headed to Eastern Illinois University in the fall. She hopes to become a neonatal nurse. And she wants to coach cheerleading somewhere.

She’ll probably try out for the Eastern cheerleading squad even though she admits it will be “a little different” from competitive cheerleading.

“But I can’t just not cheer,” she said.

Bibbs is a Martinez Middle School graduate and also attended Hermansen Elementary School.
