Lewis women’s basketball (6-18, 4-12 GLVC) closes the home portion of the 2011-12 schedule with Saint Joseph’s (13-11, 7-9 GLVC) on Saturday (Feb. 18) at 5:30 p.m. It will be Senior Night for the Flyers. It is also WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association) Play4Kay Fight Against Breast Cancer Night. Lewis will wear pink uniforms in support of the campaign.

Lewis is also selling pink Lewis T-shirts for $15 with proceeds benefiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Shirts will be available at the game if supplies last. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.

AGAINST THE PUMAS - Lewis leads the all-time series with the Pumas 33-31.

LAST TIME WE MET - The Pumas defeated the Flyers 87-82 at Saint Joseph’s on Jan. 28 in Rensselaer, Ind. Jess Reinharthad the best game of her career with 27 points. Lewis fell behind by 15 points in the second half only to cut the deficit to a single point. Saint Joseph’s pulled away by going 9-of-10 from the free throw line and making all three of their 3-point attempts over the game’s final five minutes.

SWISH FROM KISH - Madeline Kish has made two or more 3-pointers in seven consecutive games.

SPEAKING RECENTLY - Over the last six games, Jess Reinhart (15.0), Jamie Johnson (11.8) and Madeline Kish (11.0) are all averaging double-figures for Lewis.

SENIOR NIGHT - The Flyers will honor Devon Carbaugh andMadeline Kish on Saturday, Feb. 18 against St. Joseph’s as part of ‘Senior Night’ festivities. Carbaugh enters Saturday’s contest with 681 points and 462 rebounds in her four-year career. Kish has scored 306 points thanks to 63 3-pointers in her two-year Lewis career.

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Since the Flyers’ game against UW-Parkside on Jan. 16 sophomore Alexus Grayer is shooting 50.0 percent (15-of-30) from 3-point range.

FOR STARTERS - The Flyers have used 11 starting lineups this season.

WRITE HER NAME IN INK - Freshman point guard Jamie Johnson is the only Flyer to have started every game for the Flyers.

IT MUST BE THE NUMBER - Freshman Jess Reinhart, who wears the same 34 jersey number of fourth all-time scorer at Lewis Jenny Turpel (1,819 points), put on a Turpel-esque performance on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Saint Joseph’s by scoring 27 points. The total was the highest for a Flyer this season. Turpel however never scored more than 20 points in a game during her freshman season. Coincidently though, Turpel’s career high of 37 came against the same Saint Joseph’s team on Feb. 4, 2010.

REINHART OF GOLD - Since being inserted into the starting lineup on Jan. 14 against UIS, freshman Jess Reinhart is averaging 13.7 points per game and shooting 50.9 percent (57-of-112) from the floor. She is taking advantage of her chances at the free throw line, shooting 92.5 percent (37-of-40) from the charity stripe since Jan. 14.

FAIR TO COMPARE - With almost an entire season of stats it’s fair to look at how freshmen Jamie Johnson and Jess Rinehart compare to the duo of point guard Kady Currin and forwardJenny Turpel who graduated last season.

In 2011-12, Johnson is averaging 8.9 points and 2.8 assists per game. Currin averaged 3.6 points and 1.3 assists per game as a freshman in 2007-08. Worth noting, Currin earned the starting point guard spot midway through the season and finished the season playing 395 total minutes. Johnson has already played 758 minutes.

In 2011-12, Reinhart is averaging 10.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Turpel averaged 11.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in 2007-08.

ADDING AN ALL-AMERICAN - Hannah Koeneman joined the Lewis women’s basketball team on Dec. 8. The name might be familiar to those around the GLVC as she was an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Third Team selection as a senior right side hitter for Lewis in 2011. Koeneman recorded a team-high 299 kills with 91 blocks for the Flyers in 2011 and helped Lewis to a 25-7 record. The 6-2 forward with junior status for basketball last played organized basketball in high school.

UP NEXT - Lewis closes the regular season on Thursday (Feb. 23) at UW-Parkside. The contest will start at 5:30 p.m.
