Boys Basketball: Thornwood Drops Romeoville in Spartans' Regional Opener

Thornwood 56, Romeoville 48. Romeoville comeback bid falls short as cold shooting night ends the season for the Spartans.

The Hot Read: Thornwood's Darrell Combs nailed all six of his free throw attempts in the fourth quarter to hold off a Romeoville Spartans' rally as Thornwood beat Romeoville 56-48 Monday night in the opening round of the IHSA regionals.  Combs finished with a game-high 18 points to help the Thunderbirds advance to the regional final.

Patch’s MVP:  Romeoville had no answer for Thornwood’s Khapri Alston. The junior big man controlled the paint for the Thunderbirds, scoring 14 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.

Key Stats:  Thornwood controlled the game by controlling the glass.  The Thunderbirds dominated the boards, outrebounding the Spartans 27-13.
