Boys Basketball: Romeoville Rallies To Upend Oswego

Romeoville 59, Oswego 58. Down by as many as eight points in the second half, the Romeoville Spartans rallied and overcame Oswego on the strength of Devin Purnell's game-winning 3-point shot with 2.3 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Hot Read: The Romeoville bank was open late Friday night as junior Devin Purnell banked in a game-winning 3-point field goal with 2.3 seconds remaining to lift the Spartans to a 59-58 win against Oswego. The Spartans finished Friday with a flurry, outscoring the Panthers 8-3 in the final 1:10 of regulation. Purnell's bucket was set up by a missed free throw by Oswego that could have given the Panthers a three point lead with 9.8 seconds remaining.

Patch's MVP: Junior Jaylen Nunn was the Spartans' most consistent offensive threat Friday. Nunn scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the victory.

Key Stats: Four of the first five made shots from Oswego were 3-point field goals. After making six threes in the first half, the Panthers only connected on one triple after halftime. Romeoville shot 5-for-11 from the free-throw line in the second half. All five of Purnell's points came in the fourth quarter.
