Analysis: Pemble's Offense Key for Romeoville Offense

After a slow start, Spartans first baseman Jordan Pemble has proved to be a major contributor to the team's offense.

Even with today’s loss to conference for Minooka, Romeoville has played well the last week, taking two out of three to their conference foes. First baseman Jordan Pemble has been a major reason for that. He has contributed on offense in all three games, which pleases Spartans coach Tony Smith.

“He seems to be seeing the ball really well. He kinda struggled early, but once we started playing more games together he’s been doing better,” he said.

Pemble agreed, saying, “My approach at the plate has been better.”

Pemble helped get the Spartans back in the game after the Indians chased starter Casey Moll for five runs in a third of an inning. Pemble stepped into the batter’s box in the bottom of the first with the bases loaded and one out. He hit a grand slam off of Indians starter Trevor Machek to cut the lead down to 5-4. It was his third homer of the season.

The Spartans rode that momentum and added two more in the frame to take the lead and run Machek out of the game. Unfortunately, they struggled to score runs the rest of the game and Minooka got the lead back with two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth.

“This whole series we’ve been hitting well,” Pemble said.

“We weren’t worried about being down 5-0,” Smith said. “We knew we could swing the bats."

Pemble’s contributions on offense helped galvanize the veteran team, but the end result proves that baseball is truly a team game.
