The South Suburban MoveOn Council will host a book discussion on two books which offer different – but not incompatible – explanations for the curious rise of “free market” power despite decades of free market policies which resulted in middle-class income and wealth stagnation, a housing bubble and the resulting historical financial meltdown.
These books provide explanations on how the Right thwarts amelioration by controlling the public discourse and the electoral process.
Read both or one of these books. Come even if you have read neither. We will present a synopsis and then discuss the books: "Pity the Billionaire" By Thomas Frank ("What's the Matter with Kansas") and "Winner-Take-All Politics" by Jacob Hacker and Paul Pierson.
