Valley View Schools Will Be Closed Again on Tuesday

With the extreme cold expected to linger throughout the area and the safety of students and staff a chief concern, officials make the decision to keep Valley View schools closed for at least one more day.

The following news release was issued by Valley View School District 365U:

For the safety of both students and staff, Valley View Community Unit School District 365U schools will be closed again on Tuesday, Jan. 7, because of record-setting temperatures that are expected to again reach a wind chill of 30 below zero Tuesday morning.

“The safety of students and staff is our foremost concern,” said VVSD Superintendent Dr. James Mitchem. “In addition to these dangerous temperatures, the high winds from this polar front are not only making travel on local roads difficult, but are also hindering the gallant battle our transportation and maintenance department staff members are fighting to keep our buses, school parking lots and sidewalks safe for all.”

Dr. Mitchem indicated that, with the polar front moving out of the area by Tuesday afternoon, he expects schools to re-open on Wednesday.
