Valley View Considers Charging Fee for Late Registration

The board of education is scheduled to vote tonight on a proposal to impose a 20 percent late charge for students who don't register by Aug. 16.

Student fees may not increase next year—but parents could face penalties if they don’t pay up on time.

The Board of Education is scheduled to vote tonight on Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services Gary Grizaffi’s proposal to leave student fees at the current rate for the 2011-12 school year. But, under Grizaffi’s proposal, households that fail to register on time would be subject to a 20 percent late charge.

According to a memo submitted to board members, the policy would encourage more families to attend back to school registration events or participate in mail-in registration. It would also reduce long lines caused by students registering and paying fees on the first day of school.
