Underground Railroad Presentation Brings History to Life at Skoff

Submitted by Valley View School District:

Beverly Skoff Elementary School students learned about The Underground Railroad, as performed by actor, Terry Lynch, of Histories for Kids, Inc., Friday.

Told from the perspective of southern Illinois dairy farmer William Hayes, Lynch’s story focused on how Hayes’ “safe house” was used as a stopping point for slaves to gain rest and nourishment before going on to safety in Canada. Several safe houses in the Chicago area were highlighted.

Authors of two books: Mistakes Happen: An Historical Guide to Overcoming Adversityand Nicholas Comes to America, the Story of Santa Claus, Lynch and his educator wife, Laura, began Histories for Kids, Inc., as a way to bring history to life for children of all ages. Both books are available for purchase on the Histories for Kids, Inc. website, or on Amazon.com.
