Skoff Elementary Receives Academic Improvement Award

The Romeoville elementary school is one of 114 statewide to receive the honor; the school showed a 13 percent increase in ISAT performance from 2009 to 2011.

in Romeoville is among a host of statewide schools that made the Illinois State Board of Education’s Illinois Honor Roll  for continued academic progress.

The state’s annual recognition in three separate categories is based on state standardized tests and demographic information. Skoff received the ISBE Academic Improvement Award.

Community members can and should celebrate Skoff’s success,’’ said State Board of Education Chairman Gery J. Chico. “Behind each school’s success is an untold story of extraordinary passion and dedication on behalf of administrators, teachers, parents and students. We commend each school for its commitment to improvement and excellence.”

Only 114 schools throughout Illinois received the Academic Improvement Award, given to schools that have posted substantial gains in state math and reading tests. Skoff was cited for posting a school-wide 13 percent increase in students meeting or exceeding on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test from 2009 to 2011.

Northern Illinois University works with ISBE to establish criteria, identify winners of the awards and administer the Illinois Honor Roll, which also includes Spotlight Schools and Academic Excellence Schools. Each award has unique criteria that best reflect the diverse circumstances of Illinois schools.

The 2011 Honor Roll roster includes elementary, middle and high schools, including charter schools, and represents 312 school districts statewide. Downstate schools represent 41 percent of the Honor Roll schools, suburban schools represent 46 percent and Chicago schools make up the final 13 percent this year.
