MTV Internship Brings Lewis Student One Step Closer to Achieving Career Goals

Junior Kylen Mills spent a semester working for MTV in New York City.

Kylen Mills, a junior broadcast journalism major at , spent the fall semester in New York City at the MTV Television Studios. The Elmhurst resident produced content and working in production for MTV.com, production on video content for the main MTV.com home page and MTV channel.

“The best part about her internship was the freedom to work with the equipment there and be creative," Mills said. "The staff was constantly encouraging me and fellow interns to take out the cameras, use the editing software and studios to make videos." The internship at the largest and most comprehensive media network for college students provided hands-on experience of what it is like to work in a real life television production studio.

Mills said her courses and professors at Lewis prepared her well for the internship.

“The staff at Lewis is so knowledgeable and accessible," she said. "They have all worked in the industry and know what it’s like.”

Lewis University’s superior technology and equipment in the Communications Department also eased her transition into the internship.

“When you’re using equipment that is the same as production equipment at TV or radio stations, it makes the transition into the working world much easier,” said Mills, who plans to graduate in December 2012.
