Marching Spartans Bring Home Awards

The Romeoville HIgh School Marching Spartans have had a busy 2011 marching season so far. They will compete next weekend in St. Louis.

The Marching Spartans Band's season is well under way.

The band took second place Oct. 1 at the Naperville Central High School 5th Annual Marching Classic on Oct. 1 at Benedictine University, competing against Stagg and Lincoln-Way North high schools in Class AAAA. In addition to taking second place overall, the Marching Spartans won "Best Percussion" in their class.  

The band took first place in its class a day later at the St. Rita High School Mustang Stampede against Grayslake North and Grayslake Central High Schools in Class AAA. The team earned awards for "Best Percussion," "Best Drum Major" and "Best Winds," along with the first-place win and title of Grand Champion.

The Marching Spartans took fifth at the Oct. 8 Prospect Knights of Champions competition in Class AAA against Davenport Central, Maine West, Lemont, Plainfield North, Lincoln-Way East and Hersey high schools. The team also took the "Best Percussion" award.  '

Next up for the team is a trip to St. Louis, Missouri, this weekend to compete at the Bands of America contest at the Edward Jones Dome.
